The alternative to the alternatives

Forget hydrogen. Forget wind, sun, geothermal and ethanol. Business Excellence can tell you exclusively today that the future of alternative energy is profal oil.

Never heard of it? That’s because its discovery has been kept a closely guarded secret for political reasons. Now that our reporter in the South Atlantic has broken the story, however, the world’s press is heading to the Falkland Islands en masse.

If you have been wondering why Argentina has suddenly become interested in the Islas Malvinas (as they call them in Spanish), 30 years after the Falklands war, it’s nothing to do with fishing or the recent discoveries of oil and gas—it’s profal oil.

Two scientists in the Falkland Islands have been studying plankton for the last ten years, and are now believed to be on the verge of commercial production of a fuel that has a very high oil yield compared to other sources of biofuel, and burns up to three times more efficiently than oil.

Similar to algae fuel, which has been known for some time, profal oil uses the property of plankton during photosynthesis to capture carbon dioxide and sunlight and convert it into oxygen and biomass.

Planktologists Prof. Allio and Pia Frollo have been developing an industrial process that does not require complex equipment.
